Default Brakes pulsing/loss pressure

Hello All,

2001 PT Cruiser
bought used 85,000

no brake problems until today.

First time stuck in bumper to bumper stop and go for an hour.
brakes starting pulsing and had to pump brake pedal to slow down.
ABS and TRAC OFF lights came on...

Let car rest for an hour, went back to driving everything fine for about 10 minutes and problem returned.

Did my rotors overheat or is it some other possibility....
brake fluid level good, no squeaking...
more of a whirring sound and brakes take some pumping to stop

please help thanks

Might have a small vacuum leak from the brake booster. Check all the hoses coming from the booster and follow them as far as you can and check for any signs of loose connections and splits in the hose.

Check all vacuum connections first because that's easiest. Also check for fluid leaks, especially on the inside of each wheel and tire. And check the fluid level in the reservoir.

If there are no vacuum leaks and no loss of break fluid, then the next thing is the master cylinder. And in my experience, if the reservoir is full and you have to pump your breaks to stop, then the master cylinder is often the culprit.

I'm not familiar with the ABS on the PT, so someone else will have to let you know if there is anyway for the ABS itself to cause any symptoms like this. But I suspect ABS would likely not cause this.
