Default CAM SENSOR and MAGNET

Another item I don't trust even tho no issues...
Bought the cam position sensor; an elliptical shaped gizmo; didn't realize there was a magnet inside also.
MY Q...Is this just a remove and replace item; unlike my '97 FORD TAURUS there are serious alignment issues to be concerned with when replacing; otherwise (FORD) SHE NO A START
EASY To get a; right by the car battery/air cage...

as far as I know, just remove and replace. no aligning necessary.

I would recommend making sure the part you remove is the same clocking position as the one you are replacing it with other then that it is a simple R&R part.

MANY years ago I was the first to recommend replacing the magnet if replacing the sensor failed to cure the existing problem. It has been the correct fix several times since then. Of course there were other problems that ended up having a different cause and required further diagnosing.

If you noticed in the illustrations that CREWZIN posted, the back side of the is magnet keyed to the cam in several points. The guide pins are set up so the magnet will only fit ONE WAY. You can't install it wrong. I probably shouldn't say that, because someone will probably eventually force it in with a fine adjuster (hammer) and screw it up. Make sure to torque the magnet to 32 in-lbs (THATS INCH POUNDS).

I keep on hand a couple of the CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR and TARGET MAGNET just in case someone has a problems when installing my cams. Although there are no moving parts they still seem to go bad for no apparent reason or condition that I am aware of.

New on the left old on the right. They are both genuine MOPAR.

I wanted to give a great thank you to all of the admin and contributors to this forum. You have all made owning these vehicles a lot more bearable. My son and daughter each own their own GT Turbos. Recently my son's GT has been having a few issues and I believe I've narrowed it down to the cam sensor. I changed it and it ran great for about 15 minutes then went to limp mode. After researching this forum I've decided to order the magnet. Once it comes in I'll change that out and see if it solves his problem.
There have been other problems solved by the years of knowledge and expertise that I've discovered here. Thanks to everyone for sharing.
