Question ABS and TCS lamps

Yesterday, the ABS and TCS lamps on my car went (and stayed) on. I did some searching in the forum, but had a different question. I have done the key trick, and I see "DONE", so the computer hasn't stored a code. Does that mean that if I bring it in to my mechanic,if he runs the diagnostic machine on it, that nothing will show? Or can something still be found by the diagnostics being run? Also, I saw in my manual that the TCS light usually illuminates whenever the ABS light comes on, so I am assuming that it is a problem with the ABS. Is it safe to keep driving with just the manual breaking system? I know some cars don't have Anti-lock breaks at all, so I was wondering. Money is tight and I'm not in the situation to have an expensive repair, so I wasn't sure how long I could let this wait before having it taking care of (diagnostics are being run tomorrow). Thanks so much!

As long as you can't feel any thing different It's not a problem to drive that way. You will essentially have standard brakes. Push to hard they will lock up, like mine that don't have abs.

Cool Re: ABS and TCS lamps

I have the same problem. It's the pump unit most likely. There are two types one for all disk breaks and std rear breaks. The unit is only had from the dealer and cost $945.00, couch!! It's made in Germany. It's also not to easy to replace.

What year PT Cruiser?.......Any recent work done?(like battery?or brakes??).......
One thing you might try first,is to initiate a 'reset',by disconnecting the negative battery cable, wait a few minutes, tap the brake pedal about 6 times, then re-connect the negative terminal, and see if the ABS & TCS lights come back.

Won't a bad wheel sensor cause those lights to come on? That is where I would start.

Correct - that's what is was with mine, a single bad sensor - not expensive.

I usually just let off the go pedal when that happens. Especially on snow.
