Angry TIPM Your going to hear a lot about this

Looks like DC left the Chrysler arena with an experiment with the CANBUS computer and TIPM -Totally Integrated Power Module-
Chrysler has pending Legal Actions associated with the thousands of FAILED TIPM modules with hundreds back ordered..
OEM TIPM Study - JeepForum.com
my 06 needs one because of no low beams,
I'm going to turn my low beams in to always on running lights,
and non operative moon roof
my 06 sebring need one because the power outlet failed
everything must go through the TIPM circuit board and a little shaking or moisture compounds the problem
This will be the death of Chrysler, I'm sure they will be fighting all the way to the bank not to make good on TIPM as
they did with the Thousands of of failed 2.7 motors in their Sebrings. Dealer's were told to deny any warantee repairs
where 100% service wasn't done with Chrysler. Where was the brains of the engineer that designed the water pump i
nside the timing chain case? 2.7 were/are dropping like flies and yards I talked to want nothing to do with them.
I had one yard tell me they pull the 2.7 engine and scrap it while doing inventory

You aren't saying anything we don't already know. The TIPM is a known issue around here. Seems to be more of an issue on the 06 Cruiser's then later years. But all mfg.'s have issues like this now and then. I am not real sure the point of your rant.

I read through that whole thread which was very interesting but there was no mention of lawsuits in that entire thread. So I am not sure where you got that info since there has never been any mention of it on here.

And welcome to the forum. Looks like your only two posts are about the failure of TIPM's and Chrysler lawsuits. You might want to go over to the welcome forum and introduce yourself and tell us about your Cruiser.

Go have a beer, skoot down to your local junky, pull one out and swap it in your car.

Life is too short to blow head gaskets. Lawyers and class action suits= nothing for avg Joe.

Thank Dumbler Benz!

I believe Rock auto has a rebuild service on theTIPM's. I am waiting for the 06 and up to start showing up at the local yard, I will grab a few for my key spare stash.

Joe; your low beam problem can be caused by many things other than the tipm.
The power outlet is a simple fix by following basic electrical diagrams.
All new cars have circuit boards, modules, and electrical connections.
All cars are exposed to moisture/rain.
Death of Chrysler? There doing just fine now.
Warrantee repairs not honored? Just keep your oil change receipts. It is a legal contract.
2.7's are a good engine. Oil must be changed per manual [3000 miles in cold climates or city driving]. Otherwise sludge may develop.

Time for you to do some investigating on your own.

I used a 05 2.7 in a 01 sebring rag top. Took apart the front end to replace the water pump before I put it all back together.. The original "O" ring seal was deformed from oil seeping between the block and pump housing. and yes the bolts were torqued. When I got the new pump from chrysler my thoughts were confirmed because the new seal was a complete gasket covering the mating surfaces of the water pump to block. Thats where the antifreeze was seeping in to the crankcase. You can call it sludge but not me it was a mixture of the new extended life antifreeze and oil, if cooked by engine heat long enough it mixed with oil and turns into jello and it stops the oil. I've seen this on a few occasions.. If the leak is big enough the antifreeze goes to the bottom of the oil pan when it cools, and when you start the motor you first get a good slug of antifreeze washing out the bearings. If it was anything else like Chrysler saying they didn't change the oil, bull , Like I'm going to believe it was not across the board with all engines, people not changing the oil. I've only seen 2.7 motors have such a short life.

Why are you ranting about the 2.7 motor here? That was never in a PT.

2.7 was an abject failure. On paper it was a brilliant design, execution was horrible.
It's sad to see beautiful, late model sedans thrown in u-pull-r 's because the engine made the entire car line worthless. 2.7 Chryslers are easily the newest cars in their.

I remember when OMC had a power pack problem on their Johnson and Evinrudes outboards- I actually got to take a class at the Waukegen factory- I saw a huge box of failed power packs in the factory- Ask OMC about it; "What problem??"

So it's not just Chrysler, sad as it is.

I thought the main issue was the water pump, when it failed leaked into the crank case. Secret was to pre-emptively change the water pump at say 70K or so.

Of course I would of never bought an intrepid with the 2.7 when the 3.2 or 3.5 were available.

I had a 2002 intrepid as a loaner once, drove nice but the dash stuck out 3 inches and when you got in or out you smashed your Knee on it, poor ergonomics in the second gen

My parents had a 93 Intrepid and it was a nice car, brother sold it at 180K miles was still running good.

Joe; my friend bought a nice clean 2004 Stratus with a 2.7 that had over 120,000 miles on it. He's had it for over a year and no problems yet. I'll tell him to look for any signs of milk on the dipstick or coolant in the drain oil.

I agree with you about the location of the pump. Oil [plus additives ?] on one side of the o'ring and antifreeze [plus additives ?] on the other side of the o'ring is a risky situation. Note that the PT's are no bargain either. If the water pump seal leaks, it's a full days work to replace the pump. Your theory about engine sludge sounds good to me.

The old 2.2s : external water pump. What a novel idea!
