Default 2004 PT cruiser dome light problem

It is a Turbo, automatic. Posting for a relative who is not internet savvy. What is happening is, doors are shut properly, but "door ajar" is lit on the dash and dome lights are still on.

Now since he called me the first time, he called me again and said that now the dome lights are out and the door ajar message is not lit anymore. So clearly something was stuck and isn't stuck anymore. The question would be, what was it? On this car, the driver's door is the one that gets the most wear. Where is the switch located? We've determined that it is not in an obvious location. Or would it be more likely that the problem is caused by something other than the switch? If so, what? Thanks for the help.

there is a distinct possibility that the hatch wasn't fully closed. my 2001, the hatch has to be slammed shut, otherwise it does exactly what you are describing.

My 2001 has a separator indicator light for the rear hatch. If this one is the same, it may be a door sensor.

Yeah this one has the separate light for the rear hatch area. So I guess best guess is probably the driver's door switch since she uses that one the most? And where is it located? My bodyman father-in-law (her husband) couldn't see an obvious one on the front doors. So is it buried in the latch or?

That is correct. Unlike the back doors, the door ajar switch for the front doors is part of the latch/ auto-lock assembly in the door.

Thank you. I'll pass that information along to him in case it gets stuck on again.
