Default RKEM replacement advice

We recently purchased an 02 PT limited for my wife with 75k on. Super crazy clean but only came with one remote and key.

After a month the remote stopped working but the interior lock switches and headlight, fog lights, etc all work fine.

Changed batteries in remote to no avail. The original batteries tested good anyway.

I read about 100 threads on the subject.

No clicking noise from the RKEM area.

#10 underhood fuse, #3 and #10 underdash fuses all good. I even swapped with known quanity fuses from another PT we own.

Tried reprogramming the remote but it never gives me the "entering programming" chime.

I even tried programming a remote from our other PT just to see if it would work. Again, never enters programing mode.

So, are there any other DIY tests before I order an RKEM??

Also, I see alot of people replacing these with Salvage units for $40-$50 but considering the failure rate, I was thinking of spending the money and buying a new one for less than $100.

Opinions?

Also, does a NEW RKEM come with remotes??

Thanks, David

Supposedly the Chrysler/Mopar 'Keyless Entry System, MODULE PACKAGE-#82207153' comes with the module & 2 remotes
(should come pre- programmed to match RKE? IDK):

Keyless Entry System, MODULE PACKAGE. Factory keyless Entry. Fits: CHRYSLER (2001-2013), DODGE (2001-2013), JEEP (2001-2013), PLYMOUTH (2001), . # 82207153

You actually have an advantage.....Since you own another PT,you can transfer/swap the RKE from one PT,to the other, and see if the problem moves with it.
RKE ID# isn't stored into the PCM memory like SKIM codes are,but the RKE is still accessable through DRB-III for programming when no remotes are available, and new a one is needed.

Check also these fuses, as they will interrupt power to the RKEM.
PDC fuse # 18 (20 amp)
Dash FB #13 (10 amp)
