Default self test equipment

I have a 2000 PT Cruiser. Does this model have self test equipment. If so how do you make it work. In he New Yorker it was pushing and holding two selected radio buttons at the same time.

Welcome to the forum.

All models have what we call the "key trick" or "key dance" where the computer lets you know if there's any fault codes stored. Here's how you do it....

How to retrieve fault codes.

You can also make all the dials go through a dance if you hold in the trip button while turning the key to the ON position.

In additional to doing the key dance, you can also now buy a very reasonably priced code reader. I have one like this and it works great:

Newegg.com - Autel Maxiscan MS300 OBDII OBD2 Car Auto Diagnostic Scanner Tool Code Reader

You can also get dongles for your phone and use an app to read codes and view live data. Torque Pro is good for Android. OBD Fusion is good for iPhone.

Android uses a bluetooth dongle, while iPhone uses Wi-Fi such as Elm 327.
