Smile chrylsler or?

Once your warranty is gone do most of you continue to go to Chrysler for repairs or do you go to a different garage. I have no one to do any repairs so I will need a garage. Thinking of going to Canadian Tire when my warranty is gone. I am in Nova Scotia...thanks pashie

Go to an auto parts store and ask about mechanics.
If you hear a name 2-3 times, give them a try.
I never went back to the dealer for anything except a recall.

I'm in Arkansas and conditions may be different here. But I only go the dealership if the car is under warranty. Otherwise, I either fix it myself or I take my car to a local family owned shop where they can be trusted to only charge me for what is necessary.

It's not that dealership folks are bad people. But the way the technicians are trained and the methods they use are often wasteful and costly. They will often read a list of symptoms and then just replace the recommended part whether it is actually bad or not. And if that doesn't work, they just replace the next one on the list. Also most do not have the flexibility to obtain after-market or salvage parts which may be an order of magnitude cheaper.

There are of course many exceptions to what I have described. Sometimes the dealership has equipment and tools that make their technicians more efficient and more cost effective than an independent shop. But with the internet, it is very easy for anyone to quickly find out on which of these rare occasions, the dealership is the true best choice. And of course, there are always a few dealerships that run their service departments like small independent shops. And these can often provide the best of both worlds. But these are very rare and they are hard to find unless you know someone there personally.
