Default DEI 545T Installation help please

I'm new to this forum.

I got the DEI 545T installed on my 08 PT base model. So, my headlights, tail lights, side markers turn on just fine when it goes dark outside which is good.

My problem is I can't figure out how/where to connect the dash lights and other inside lights so they turn on as well when the headlights turn on. Am I missing something in the directions given with DEI 545T?

Does anyone have a schematic of which wire from DEI545T goes to some wire to the multifunction switch??? Am I even asking a sensible question?

Please help me. I'm totally lost.

Thanks in advance for guidance.

We have a member named "sanatanadharma" who is extremely knowledgeable on the wiring of the 2nd generation PT's, which you have, and he should be able to help you if he sees this post.

Thank you CREWZIN, but you have me confused with another.

Sorry asharma56; I am the he who is extremely knowledgeable on the wiring of the first generation PT's. I await the arrival on this forum of a second generation electrical guru. I have never seen a 2006-up electrical schematic.

Thanks guys. Hopefully someone will see this and reply.
In the meantime, sanatandharma, if I had the 1st gen PT, how would I connect that? I will take your info (color of the wire on PT, color of wire on DEI545) and compare it with what I can find under my dash and post it here, maybe that'll get us somewhere?

It's me again. Sorry to bother so much.
On the 08 PT Cruiser base model, is it advisable to wire the dash lights in a way that when the car starts, the dash lights turn on by default? This way the dash lights will be on all the time. The headlights, tail/park lights will turn on when the module(DEI545T) kicks in when its dark outside.

If this is advisable, how would I wire it up that way?

Sorry, I'm thinking too much, please forgive me.

Thanks in advance.

I know virtually nothing about the 2nd gen pt, except that it has a canbus system, which probably shouldn't be messed with for your needed application.

OK. If I understand. You want the dash (etc) illumination to come on automatically (as with the ignition) rather than as normal through the MFS.
You also want your DEI 545T to control the external lights; apparently you have this sorted out.

My question: Is the DEI 545T installed in parallel with the MFS, or did you cut OEM wires anywhere?

Essentially, tap either a ignition on circuit better the same DEI 545T power-out to the exterior lighting and splice a wire to the correct instrument panel connector-pin. I can't say which that is. If the system is wired in parallel to the MFS, then either the DEI 545T or the MFS will turn on the lights; the DEI 545T automatically at night.
I question whether the interior illumination dimmer will work. To keep this feature, you need to know the power-in point for this circuit.

As you have a canbus electrical system, I take no karma for your car's messup.

My two cents is that it is not advisable to have dash lights on all the time, unless you can ensure they are not at max illumination, because you'll burn the bulbs out, and they are not a snap to replace....
Up to you...
