Unhappy PT Cruiser Burst Into Flames?

This is a pretty interesting article. It appears that in 2004, Chrysler issued a recall for the PT. In certain instances, the vehicle's power steering unit could leak, causing an engine fire. This case ended in a $15 million settlement. What a terrible deal.

That's old news.
There was a member on one of the forums whose PT did catch fire.
The recall was an inspection of the routing of the lines, with a possible re-route, if needed.

Yep, and an ever earlier recall was the fuel line in the engine compartment that would rub against the A/C line and wear a hole into the line until it leaked onto the hot engine. This was the 2001-2002 PT Cruisers.

To fix that situation, the recalled cars (including mine) had the fuel line pulled away from the A/C line and a Zip-Tie was used to pull the line closer to one of the other lines.

One of the members of the forum also had his PT catch fire and he gave us this picture.

Yep, that's a 6 hr. belt. Takes more than a flash fire to change one of these.
