Default Dashboard gauges have died

Hi all, I have a 04 PT cruiser 2.0L, I have a weird fault with all the dashboard, it's all gone dead. Car drives fine though.

Battery would appear to be fine under load, alternator charging fine. Fuses and relays all okay. I recently disconnected the battery and charged it indoors, on reconnecting the fault disappears, some after a short drive it came back. I tried this again, and same result. I then tried another tactic of isolating the battery for a few hours and reconnecting, the fault again disappeared but soon came back, I have repeated this a few times with the same result. This cannot be simulated by quickly disconnecting the battery. It needs to be disconnected for a while, as if something capacitive or inductive needs to discharge. When i reconnect the battery all is well for a while.

I have tried the gauge reset/selftest and I got this:-

289139 FL0007 EE 15 BL01

Any help would be appreciated

Try giggling the key in the ignition switch - sometimes the switch goes bad and cuts off some things - usually radio goes...

I believe that FL0007 EE 15 BL01 is the just the version of software in the PCM. It's like the BIOS code that comes up when a PC is booted. And I believe it's normal on some PT's and isn't indicative of a problem.

FL0007 - Display Application Code Level
EE 15 - Display EEPROM version
BL 01 - Display Boot Loader version

289139 is likely the last six numbers of your VIN number.

I keep trying to inform people stop believing that disconnecting the battery clears DTC(s). It doesn't. It is BAD posted information. All you succeed in doing is removing the DTC from viewing. They are still in the Readiness of the PCM and most will remain until properly cleared through the diagnostic port with a proper scan tool. Some you can only clear except in the readiness which will remain inactive until the problem has resolved through auto diagnostics during several complete cycling or over aprox 50 miles of normal driving.

Hi NitroPT, gonna annoy you more now, but what are DTC(s)? Is this a fault mere mortals cannot cure and I have to take in to a specialist?

Many thanks
