Default Taillight tries to escape.

My wife drove her "Peaty" for our home in central NJ to Atlantic City, about a two hour drive. When she got there she found the passanger side taillight hanging by the wires! She said she stopped half way and didn't notice anything wrong. I did some work on the car, new front pads and rotors before she left, and took out the jack. When I put it back I also stuffed a few clean rags behind\above it.
Is it possible that I could have dislogded the tail light, and it was waiting for an opertunity to jump ship? Is this a common thing, and do I have to be carefull evey time I take the jack out that I don't do it again?

Question Re: Taillight tries to escape.

Does the retaining screw (or insert) look stripped?

Haven't heard of it, so it isn't a common problem.

Perhaps someone was "shopping" "midnight auto parts" and was interrupted?

She's not due back untill tomorrow, so I haven't seen if any thing is stripped broken.

It happened as she was driving on the Garden State Parkway, no doubt the turbo was singing a mighty tune, so I don't think it was unfriendlies.

Sometimes the metal retaining clip can break in half(w/age),or the screw can get stripped......Pretty easy fix, though.

The plastic around the screw broke, so there was nothing to hold it in place. It looks like it was overtightened at some point before I got it, as the inside looked a little smashed around the screw. A visit to tthe JY is in order.

If you cannot find a tail light at the junkyard or you want a new one, go with DEPO brand. They have an exact OEM fit.
