Default New guy with a few minor issues.

Hello all.
I just joined today. First time PT Cruiser owner. You can read my story and how I got a PTC without trying or even wanting one in the new guy section.
I've got a 2001 LE. I have one issue and one question.
My issues is that the radiator fan isn't coming on like it should. It is over heating at times. Sometimes it is over heating, other times, it works fine. I'm unfamiliar with this car so what should I look for? There are three wires going to the fan. Can I hook up a hot wire to make sure both the high and low speeds are working? If so, which wire is the groung? What sensors, relays, etc. should I check out?
My question is that this car has factory fog lamps. Where is the switch to turn them on??????
Anyway, love, LOVE the car. I think I might have this one in the driveway for a long time.
Thanks in advance for your help.

the center wire on the fan is the ground. the fog light switch is on the very end of the turn signal/light stalk. just pull on it. timing belt/water pump and tensioners should be done around 100,000 miles.

some other folks here can tell you about the other maintenance items.

oh, and if you need a fan, which you probably do, get a dorman lifetime warranty one . less than a hundred bucks and fairly easy to change out.

I got mine on amazon and the other on rockauto for the wife's pt.

Thanks for the quick reply but as it turns out, it was just a spotty connection at the fan itself. Easy fix.
Found the fog light switch. I would have never figured that out

I think somewhere on here. Probably the sticky section in tech & performance section. You can get a copy of the service manual.

Loose connections cause heat, examine the male-female 3 wire connector very close. I found the cause of my overheating was the ground connector (middle connector) had heated and melted the plastic around it inside the connector. I just soldered a jumper around the connector,, no more problems. (It did get a new fan motor previously)

My car is leaking oil, I noticed the oil in the driveway whe I was pulling out, My car was driving fine, not jerking, no service engine light came on or anything.I arrived to work looked under my car it's leaking again and now there no oil in the car. The oil leak appears to be in the front/middle of the car.
