Default Key reprogramming

Car dealerships and their service operations never cease to amaze me. So my wife takes her '07 PTC into a local dealer here in NJ to get the one of the keys to the car reprogrammed. She arrives at the scheduled appointment time and the service rep tells her that it will take ONE AND A HALF HOURS. Really? To reprogram ONE key? AND she had to BEG the service rep to agree that the service technicians NOT do their "FREE" 45 point magic inspection and ONLY reprogram the key. Amazing. This dealership is just awful. Does anyone know about how long it should take to reprogram such a key?

So the service representative eventually comes out, TWO HOURS later and says that the key for our PTC is bad, can't be reprogrammed and thus we have to purchase a new one. $240. (OK...we knew that that was a possibility and could happen). But THEN he has the gall to say, "Listen, you're gonna get a survey from Chrysler asking about your service experience with us here today. IF you don't give me ALL 'TENS', then they're gonna take it out of my pay. So you make sure that you give me ALL tens." Absolutely amazing.

You need to find a different dealership. My dealership charges $35 to program a key. You can get one on Ebay pretty cheap and then get any Chrysler dealership to program it. I would call around and see who gives you the best price.

I installed the factory fogs in mine and had to have the circuit turned on in the computer. Dealership said it would be $35 because it took almost a half hour. The tech brings me the car 5 minutes after I dropped it off and said there you go. I asked him where the ticket was so I could pay and he told me to have a nice day and sent me on my way.

I bought a used key Fob on ebay only to find out when I got it that the key blank can' be replaced with new blank. Sending key fob back. Found another source on line at ebay for 4 dollars more new key fob with new blank. When I get it I will have it cut and find a dealer to have it programmed. TRying to find a factory manual to find out how techs program the key fobs at dealerships.

Since I didn't have a FOB key when I bought the car, it cost me $180 from the dealer and about 5 minutes to program it.
