Default HUH? WHAT?

I was called into town today to meet up with a friend that was interested in buying a PT Cruiser from a private party (not the original owner). What I saw made my jaw drop! This older PT ('01 or '02) was the plainest model PT I have ever seen! It looked beautiful (silver) with the light gray interior and only 66,000 miles. However, it said nothing on the liftgate (no Touring or Limited) and it had NO cruise control, manual door locks AND crank windows - they DID crank windows? I sat in the car and rolled the driver's window up and down myself with that crank. Looked odd not to see the power window buttons in the middle of the dash. However, the car did have A/C. Has anyone else seen anything like this or do you think this was some special order? Anyhoo, the car was super shape and my friend really liked the 5 speed (me, too, I wish mine had the 5 speed.) He bought it.

I'm shocked. Particularly for '01 and '02, the PT came with tons of standard features.
A/C was standard, and I thought so was electric windows and power locks, but remote locking was an option.
Never heard of wind-up windows on a PT.
Later, I think '05, they offered PTs without A/C.

It may have been a government car. GSA special orders cars for state and federal use with absolutely no extra features. And then pay more for them than models with standard features. That's our government at work.

But is also seems that I've seen a few very plain 2001-2002 base models. Except for the "Cobra" shifter, it's hard to tell what year model that are since they are missing most of the features that tell. But since most early PT's were Limited or step-up models, these early plain-Jane PT's are likely rare.

My first PT was a base silver 02 base model, no options, but came w/ cruise & power windows. Never heard of crank windows on a PT, that's a rare bird indeed.

Power windows were an option on early base models - standard on Touring and Limited. The dealer had a stripped-down base model on the lot when I bought my '05 Touring. No power windows, no cruise control, no a/c, standard shift. It was cheaper to get a Touring Edition than to add the options to a base.

Thank you. I appreciate your input. I'm the one with the original post and I have learned that some people thought I was crazy because they had never heard of manual windows on PT. I finally got to the point that even though other people hadn't heard of it and thought the cranks never existed, I knew it was correct since I sat in the darn car and saw for myself! Thanks again for your input.
