Default Best Cruiser???

I've had my 2001 Limited for just a few weeks now but the more I drive it, the more I like it.
I'm curious as to what you guys think is the best year made? ??
Are the turbo models better or is a turbo not reliable enough? ?
Auto or manual?
Convertible or hardtop?

Just curious.

To answer one of your question....yes the turbo's are reliable. The other questions are strictly a personal taste. Best year made: The very early one's came with more options like lighted switches, door lock on the passenger side etc. The 2nd generation (2006 +) has the semi-prone to problems, CAN-Bus electrical system. Also came with the interior and exterior changes that some like, some don't.

The Turbo is strong, fast and reliable.. People that don't understand the love of a PT, probably don't deserve to.

Most sites show the earlier models to have the most issues

Probably an 04 or newer, it's been a while since I've read about it

Neither models handle very well, the steering ratio sucks, so I'd avoid a convertible, my 1 cent

The naturally aspirated ones are slugs, especially with an automatic

The second gen turbo is the most powerful stock pt

Only because the people coming to the site bought the car with high mileage, 2nd or 3rd owner and the car wasn't taken care of by the first owners. Those of us that had the earlier models and took care of them have very little problem with them.

Until you get to the second generation with the CAN-BUS system and then you start hearing about the electrical problems that can't be fixed unless you change out the whole system that has a problem.

Only the GT owners think that way. I can keep up with 99% of the traffic on the roads and cruise at way over the speed limit without a problem all day long using regular grade gas. Can I beat the punk kid to the next stoplight, maybe not but who the heck cares.

BFD, you want the most powerful car, buy another car, and guess what, there's ALWAYS someone faster, ALWAYS.

Some say the 05 gt is the best. Personally I prefer the convertible. I sometimes look around on autotrader to see what can be had. I wish mine was a 5 speed, but I use the autostick all the time anyway. Good luck finding a nice one!

This is easy. For the NA, 2001 is the model to own. It came with the most features. And it was built when Chrysler thought the PT would be a low-production specialty car. Chrysler starter cutting corners as soon as they realized they were going to have to start quickly putting out a whole lot more PT's to keep up with demand.

For the turbo, it's got to be the 2003 Dream Cruiser from many accounts. This is a special and unique car. And it's especially true if the Stage 1 kit is added which gives it horsepower close to any PT made.

Of course, these are just my opinions. The great thing about the PT is the variety. Other choices are just as valid. And that's a good thing.

Crewzin

No I was talking about when they were new, not used

All cars come with some sort of canbus now, it's called technology.

quite a bit of people agree its a slug. Saying you keep up with 99% of the traffic in Florida doesn't mean much, all the old folks and snowbirds live there, they drive slow, so yes you could keep up with them

I said "stock" of course there is someone faster, duh
dougs likes this.

03 was the only year for a base model GT for those of us that prefer headroom over a power seat and sunroof.
2nd choice would be a Inferno Red 5 speed GT vert.
