Default New old Cruiser - problems, problems problems

Greetings all! Was looking for a car for my 15 year old and purchased a 2001 LE from a neighbor in her 80s with 6600 miles on the odometer. Yep 6600... Already had to replace the battery and tires after only two weeks. Had to change all the fluids and charge the A/C. Why don't they make 'em like they used to?

You have to do some maintenance on a 13-14 year old car and you're griping?

Little old ladies who rarely drive their cars aren't likely to baby them either .. We call that math up here where the air is fresh

The Turbo is strong, fast and reliable.. People that don't understand the love of a PT, probably don't deserve to.

NONE of the items mentioned fall into the category of PROBLEMS. They should all be changed whenever you buy a used car, especially a 13-14 year old vehicle as QSD just said. You just picked up an almost brand new car with that kind of mileage and you've only changed the parts that wear out on every vehicle. Quit griping and enjoy the ride.

Welcome to the forum.

Truly, those things don't far well not being used. The ac being down is the only thing that I see as car related. Most likely dried out seals from low usage. Hope you changed the trans fluid as well. Often over looked. Hope you don't judge us to harshly for our reaction to your post. After all you are on a PT Cruiser lovers forum. We welcome you to the forum. You can look in the how to section on the tech and performance page for help with about anything on a pt. You can also ask us. Everyone here will be ready to help. Enjoy the PT.

I would have changed the oil in the engine as well as the transmission.
12 year old tires aren't the best bet for safety either. It is hard to believe that the battery was factory after 12 years and in service it would have been changed at least twice or 3 times by now.
6600 miles is a gift. Still have about 90000 to go before the $1000 knock to change the timing belt, tensioners and water pump.
A heck of a deal, enjoy it to the fullest. You struck gold.

I for one am glad they don't make 'em like they used to. I've had several autos and pickup trucks over the years that would be wore out after 100,000 miles. These days, with proper maintenance, 100,000 miles is just a good beginning.

Greetings and welcome to the forum.

WELCOME TO THE FORUM

I don't know much about the mechanic's of Kars or what they use to be like, but it sounds like you got yourself a good deal. Around my parts lots of senior's keep Pt Cruisers of early vintage in the garages and are in near show room condition with low miles. I am afraid I will not own any of them as most tell me they will go to their grand kids.
