Default horn problem

2008 PT Cruiser

Horn is not as loud upon pressing and when locking doors with remote (which makes the horn sound)

I checked the owners manual and there is not even a listing for horn in the directory, i checked the fuse diagram in the owners manual and there is no listing for it there either.

I am trying to start with the basics first

Just sounds like a neutered horn.

Thx jep

PT's come with only 1 horn...the low one. I do believe the wire is already there if you want to add the high horn.

Got a second horn from a junk cruiser when I found the wiring for one. Added the "new" horn, plugged it in and now the horn is loud by 2x.
Most horns are destroyed along with the vacuum box they sit next to on the right front frame horn when there is a front collision at that point.

Note: Only one of the Cruisers (1 01 base, 1 02 Limited, 2 04 base, 1 05 base) at the pickapart had a horn still intact. None of them had dual horns not could I find a harness for extra horn on any of them.

So in this scenario, you would go with replacing the horn first?

try to jump the horn directly to the battery to check if it's already shot.

Just to correct this statement. The first couple/few years of the PT, they DID come with both the high and low tone horns. The high was deleted in the following years (along with several other items) as cost cutting measures took affect.

I'll probably miss a few but these were a few of the items deleted:

Vanity cover on the engine
High note horn
Passenger side outside door key
Cargo net and/or package shelf on some models
Lighted interior buttons

Those and alot more can be found in this thread:Secrets of the PT Cruiser

And just a thought....It probably wouldn't hurt to check your horn relay, just to cover all bases.

Cool Re: horn problem

I'm on my 4th Cruiser, and none of them ever came with an extra connection for a second horn.
I have always added the "high tone" Highway Blaster from Aurozone; spliced-in the wiring; and have had great horn sound.
