Default What is an 03 Tangerine Dream w/5spd worth>

Hey guys, so I found a 2003 Tangerine Dream Cruiser for sale with a 5 speed. Kind of disappointed because I wanted an automatic tangerine dream.

Anyway the original chrome wheels have been replaced with aftermarket 16's but otherwise it appears to be bone stock. It has ~180,000Kms (~112,000mi). The body looks good with no visible dents but could use a good waxing and buffing. Interior doesn't look abused or well worn and has the two tone seats.

The seller says the power steering pump or switch is bad, the e-brake doesn't work, and 2nd gear doesn't work. I don't know if the trans is shot or not. I asked the seller for details about exactly what the issue is with second.

So, what is it worth given its great condition but poor mechanics?

Hi Crewzin, yes I saw that one in the classified here. So is $4800 a reasonable price for perfectly working one?

Just trying to figure out if I should make an offer for this "local" one given that the trans and power steering might be shot and it is 6 hour bus ride away. lol

Not sure, was just showing you one to get you in the ball park for a price but myself, if the trans and PS might be shot, I'd keep looking around.

You need to find out if synthetic oil was used - turbos need it -
and was timing belt/water pump changed? that runs about $1,000.

Well the seller is asking $2000 as it is. I am willing to bet it was not synthetic and I am assuming I would have to do the timing belt.

I think $2000 is way high given its issues.

She says she "was told" that you have to go from 1st to 3rd as second doesn't work. So I gather it was driven by her son. She doesn't appear to be very old so maybe the son is in his 20's. Just a guess.

Very true. So say $6000 including the power steering repair and then you are right all the other stuff like watts link etc etc.

Maybe I need to just pass on it. I really fell in love with the color as soon as I saw it listed. I didn't even know there was a tangerine Dream Cruiser until I saw it since I am new to the pt cruiser scene. I think they are super rare here in Canada.

The question IMO is only valid if you are buying a vehicle as an investment to turn over and attempt to make profit.

Otherwise what its worth is up to you and how much you are willing to pay to get it?

Please the community do not take offence.....
A few associates that are in the business of selling exotic, Hot Rods specialty vehicles etc. tell me that there is no PT Cruiser of any collectible worth to the larger population of car enthusiasts and that the market is very small mostly within its own followings.

We paid local dealer low+ book worth for our PT Cruiser. Personally speaking when we purchased it I thought it was a good deal and worth the price. Many on this forum would not have paid what we did. But than I am very happy with our PT!
