Default Rear Wiper, No pressure on the glass? Possible spring?

Hello all,

I seem to have an issue with the rear wiper arm on my cruiser where the arm itself, has no real elasticity to it anymore. In the sense, you can move it with no force against it what so ever. It will sit at any position I put it in just fine. Due to this, the wiper blade itself, is not being forced against the glass properly.

I checked under the arm and I can see a spring, but figured I would ask here before I worked off of assumptions. So I was curious on what peoples thoughts were on this, or if anyone else has ever encountered (and overcame) this before?

Thanks a bunch!

Just get a new arm at your local parts store

I would if I knew how to take it off. ^^; I took the rusted nut off the back side but it appears it doesn't remove that way, and if it does, I lack the appropriate pushing tool.

I was able to fix this by spraying some penetrating fluid into the arm hinge assembly. Must have just had some rust buildup. Problem solved.

I used a battery terminal puller to remove the wiper arm (after taking nut off).

Yeah, I've encountered that on my '01. It seems like they set the hinge pin too tight. A little penetrating oil on the hinge pin and work it has always been my "solution".

Had same problem also put some penetrating on the hinge and when it is free put some lithium spray on after.

To pull it I think you will need a battery puller as said.

Good Luck!

I bent the rusty riveted area on mine open a hair with a sharp flathead screwdriver so it can move more freely. The oil was always a short term repair on mine. --Don't bend the spring to increase pressure. It will make the wiper "hop" across the glass.

I never found the stock wiper to have any useful pressure, and now am much happier with the performance of the 'Opal Corsa' wiper mod :-)

(And had to let the penetrating oil sit overnight, to get the rusty old nut off...)
