Default shifter bushing

Been seeing some discussions on the shifter bushings and decided to check mine. Sure enough found a worn one. Not too bad but well on it's way. An easy job took 10 minutes (only had to change one). Only precautions I will add is to not brake the plastic on the cable end (very expensive) and don't put the screw driver that pry's the old one out and helps but the new one in through your hand. I used a NAPA part number 620-1410 $20.00 comes with three different bushings but I think most of the time you will only need the one or two (trans end). I also put a link that started this but great instruction video. Chrysler PT Cruiser shifter cable bushing replacement - YouTube
Made a nice difference to my shifting.

Bought a bushing kit from CARQUEST for my 5 speed manual. The kit has 3 bushings including the plastic connector end. As there are 4 bushings needed for the manual shift I bought 2 kits, no matter because each kit was only $17.25 and now I have a spare bushing. Very easy to install, line up, lube outside and squeeze into hole in cable end.

My guess it is the same kit. Don't know why most have three bushings when in fact there are 4.

Cool Re: shifter bushing

are they the same style bushings as the factory ones?

I installed Booger Bushings a while back, they are poly, the difference from stock is night and day. That is about the best thing I have ever done to the PT in all the years I have owned it, by far the best 20 bucks I have spent!

I'm not sure there are factory bushings, at least I understand if you bring it to a dealer they will tell you you have to change the cable for $200 just for the part.
With that said I would say they are the same and not like the Booger. I went with the NAPA because I was able to just pick it up as to mail order.
My bushing wasn't totally gone but still made a big difference and only changed the one.
