Default Weird radio

Ok, so I bought a 2001 PT Cruiser two weeks ago. This is the 2nd one I have owned. WE (wife and I) traded it for a 2008 Town and Country to haul the grandkids. We missed it so much we found one just like it and bought it. We're happy again. Anyway, I'm driving home from Houston, listening to the AM radio and the accompanying static and much to my chagrin when I step on the brake the static clears up. I'm figuring that when I hit the brakes the radio grounds and cuts the static. Anyone have an insight on this? Happy Motoring!!!

Grounding may be the issue. A 2001 should have grounding lead that runs to the back of the stereo head. Pull you stereo head and make sue it is hooked up and hasn't been cut or pulled loose. If it doesn't have one, my suggestion is to run a wire all the way to the engine block where the negative battery cable connects. The metal is the dash may not be grounded well enough to work.

And as a recommendation, you may want to make one of my patented "stereo work stations" so the stereo head can rest comfortably with the cables hooked up while you check out the grounding lead.

On my 06 there are ground wires from engine to shock. Mine are broke with no static (shame) but my be yours are causing a problem.

Also if there is a poor signal in the first place this may happen normally.

I would try the ground on the dash first. looks a lot better and may work just as good. You can always do the other if it does not clear it up.

It does appear to be a grounding problem.

Welcome to the forum. There's lots of good info here. And good folks, too!
