Default Newbie looking at jumping in the pool

Hi everyone,
Newbie to the forum and to PT Cruisers and thinking about jumping in the "waters". Would like to know if there are any years/models that had issues that would deter one from consideration. What is considered the best year/model to own? After the little bit of looking that I have done it appears that front suspension might be a weak point. Seams like tie rods, ball joints and wheel bearings have been a issue for some locally (MN) usually around 80k or so. Maybe this is normal, I don't know. Thanks in advance for your opinions, there is a lot of passion on this board which is great to see!

Personally I like the 2003-2005 models. 2003 was the first year for the turbo. All cars are going to need tie rods or ball joints or wheel bearings so I wouldn't let that sway you!

Basically, you have to styles G1 from 2001-2005 & G2 2006-2010.

I have a gen 1. 03 non turbo. it gets driven about 200 miles a day.it has 192XXX miles and still going strong. I looked at a gen 2 and just like the gen 1 interior. It's all personal preference, But definitely go for a turbo. That's the only thing I could say that I wish I had. Only common problem I ever really see is the multifunction switch for the fog lights in a gen 1 goes out, but there is fix's for it. This forum is a HUGE help no matter which you choose to go with.

I like the 2000-2005 models better than 2006-2010 for several reasons.

1. I like the looks of the front end better.
2. I like the looks of the dash better.
3. From what I hear, the canbus system on the later models can be troublesome.

Welcome to the forum. Find a Cruiser that you like and don't look back.

I've had my 2004 base for over a year trouble free. Between 100k and 120k the timing belt needs replaced. That's the only thing I can think of. It can be expensive if you have a mechanic do it, so use that in your negotiations.
