Default PT's are fussy about replacement alternator????

Are Pt's fussy about their replacement alternators? Aside from personal brand preferences is it absolutely essential to buy a replacement Alt. from the dealer or will any good quality aftermarket be ok?

Any quality replacement will work. Life time warranty not always the best. But check around for good reputation. Oem will Cost you a ton. good rebuild shop will do if you got one handy.

The hard part is getting the alternator our from behind the engine. I believe the easiest method is to remove the motor mounts and shift the engine. Here's how I did it:

I would stick to a National Brand rebuilt or not. Other than that I don't think I would pay extra for a Mopar.

Turns out an intermittent charging problem was nothing more than a loose connection or short at the fusable link.

Always good to check everything out before spending your money.

The alternator never quit. I had a chirping sound that I believed was coming from the alternator even after belt change out. Alternator front bearings will sometimes do this. I now believe it came from a misaligned power steering pump pulley that wasn't properly reinstalled when the previous owner had the timing belt changed.

So I guess the "extra" alternator that I have now has about 125,000 miles on it. And it still worked fine when removed for the car.

Bench test done.....alternator is fine. Turns out it was a fusible link/wire short causing intermittant charging problems.
So far have 173,000 miles on it...Im second owner so I don't know if its original or not.
