Default Should I use synthetic motor oil?

Hey all, I recently bought an 08 pt cruiser non turbo with 85k miles

ISyntheTic it from an older lady whom owned it for four years and she wasn't sure what kind of oil has been being used in the car. Im assuming regular conventional.

The oil right now is about a quart low and im going to do an oil change. or have an oil change done i should say.

Im thinking about buying the 5 quart 5w-30 mobil 1 full synthetic from wal-mart.

This car will be a daily driver for work of 30 miles each way (60 miles round trip) each day. So the miles add up quick.

My concerns are from a little research, people have had leaking issues with seals and what not after switching to synthetic.

What do u guys think I should do? Full synthetic, valvoline max life (synthetic blend), or conventional oil?

Also does anyone have a part part number for oil filter when shopping for one from Wal-Mart or is there any tips on how to find the right one? Sorry im somewhat a newb

Wal-mart has books that allow you to look up your car and it gives you the numbers of about 5 different oil/air filters. They also carry lots of different regular and synthetic oils at good prices. I shop there for the 5 quart Mobil 1 containers that can usually beat the price of the major auto stores. Personally I wouldn't switch over to synthetic at 85k if the PT hadn't been using it befor now.

I use WalMart, too, for the Castrol GTX High-Mileage oil that I run in my PT, they are about $8-$10 cheaper than the auto parts stores for the 5-quart jug.

The reason I want to go with synthetic is bacause if I buy it from Wal-Mart then there is only a few dollars price difference than buying the conventional oil from the place I usually buy from which is o"reilley's, autozone, or other auto parts store.

Another reason I want to go synthetic is beacause I drive a lot and miles accumulate quick so id rather go 5k between changes instead of 3k but I dont want to cause any leaks or other plroblems so maybe ill just stick with conventional.

Synthetic is a better oil. I'd switch.
I don't get the idea of a blend - it admits synthetic is better, so why dilute it?
I have also never seen a breakout of what % is synthetic in a blend - 2 drops?

You will be fine with synthetic. I switched to AMSOIL after 3 years of running free dealership oil in my 2006 PT non turbo.

Sounds like you'll be putting a lot of miles on your car. 300 miles a week for 50 weeks is 15,000 miles.

You could do up to 5 Mobil 1 severe service oil and filter changes (3 months/3,000 miles when you experience 32F or lower day or night temperatures according to owners manual which also states "most vehicles are operated under the conditions listed for schedule B" (severe service)) or 1 AMSOIL warranted oil and filter change each year. And get it delivered to your house to avoid WalMart, saving you lots of time and money.

Well I just got back from Wal-Mart.

I picked up the 5 quart 5w-30 mobil 1 full synthetic.
With a Bosch D3330 oil filter

I did notice they had the mobil 1 full synthetic high mileage. Advertised for cars with over 75,000 miles which is my car but I didn't choose it. Not sure if I should have.

So I guess im going to have the oil changed to synthetic come monday unless somebody talks me out of it.

I also went with the bosch D3330 over the mopar 409 I think it was. Not sure which one is better but the bosch was more expensive and claims to hold more dirt. Its advertised as a long distance or something I think
