Default Help?? speedometer doesn't work

I am newbee in the forum and I need an advice about a problem in my PT cruiser. I have a 2004 PT Cruiser Turbo HO with 156,000 miles and it run fine no transmission problem, but the speedometer doesn’t work and the check engine is ON with the code P0501 and P0700. I change the Vehicle Speed Sensor both in and out. And still the speedometer doesn’t work. I change the Vehicle Position Gear sensor which was inside the transmission and I change the transmission oil too with the correct oil and still don’t work. The transmission guy said it will be the PCM or TCM Module….. any advice?

Hi LionPT.

I tried the Gauge test, the control panel work fine the same as the video everything moves and then stop, but still the speedometer doesn’t work.

But the speedometer worked during the test..??
If it did, I doubt that it is a PCM problem.

This thread might help: odometer not working...

I check the link that you provide:

CREWZIN post - Which finales replacing the speed sensor. I did change both speed sensors IN and OUT but I bought them In Auto Zone store in MEXICO. Do I need to get MOPAR brand to be sure is not that the problem?
The first link in the same post – They finales replacing the PCM, which is what my mechanic think.

I did some Google search and somebody mention that the dealers sometimes reprogram the original PCM module. You guys think that is something I can do before buying PCM module.

If I need to buy one, I found one in the junk car area is similar; I will need to program the PCM right?

Any help?

Talking about the PCM now, you can try removing the 3 (4 on automatic transmission) plugs from the PCM, visually checking for corrosion and/or using electrical cleaner, then plugging them all back in again. Be very gentle figuring out how the release tabs on the plugs slide out because they are too easy to break.

This may not be your problem but it is no cost to try, or a small cost if you have to buy the spray cleaner. The cleaner can be used in many other places on the wire harness, though. A repair manual book probably has instructions on how to check the sensors, wires and plugs with a meter. I hope you find the fix quickly and for no more cost.
