Default HELP! DRIVER'S SIDE WINDOW WON'T GO UP

Out of the blue coming home from work this morning 2006 PT Cruiser Touring Edition driver's side window won't go up. Other three windows work fine. Am I right in guessing the problem is in the door since it's only one window? It's my daughter's car and her dad is looking at it. He says there's a wire disconnected but we don't know if that is the problem - he isn't sure what it should have been connected to.

I havent had one apart but if its like my other chrysler the window is raised and lowered by a cable (wire) connected to the motor. The cable breaks and its non repairable. If that is the problem replacement is the only option.

If the cable is broken inside the door, you would likely still be able to hear the window motor running when you push the button.

First, check the fuse to see it is blown. Then check to see if any wires are cut where they go into the door from the dash.

If the fuse and wires are good, chances are that it is either the switch or the window motor itself. First try working the window switch multiple times while pushing in on it. If the window moves, you may just have a bad contact point in the switch.

If you have no joy with the switch, remove the door panel, unhook the plug from the window switch motor and use a test light to see if there is power going to the switch when you press the button. If you have power, then it is likely the motor. If there is no power, your job just got harder. On a 2nd Gen PT, you have to remove the center console panel to get at the window switch. While it not designed to be serviceable, you can dissemble it and use an emery board to file the contacts. Then reassemble and see if it works. If not, put everything back together and take it to a good mechanic unless you are adept at chasing down electrical problems.

Pull door panel and sound liner. Check wires coming out of windows motor for broken wires. Had this happen last month on both front doors . Happy cruising.

No, he means the window lift motor.

My guess is the wire in the door hinge is broken. over years of hinging back and forth the wires work harden and will break. That's the most likely cause.

If your window is stuck open, apply power and ground directly to the motor terminals to close the window, if the way you apply them doesn't work, switch the leads. You won't damage the motor if you apply power and ground in the wrong direction, just don't hold it there.
