Default PT's ride quality ?

I bought my PT NEW in 2002, now has 86,000 miles. Is it just me get older, or do these cars just ride like crap ? I've read were others spent money on struts and shocks. And they still ride rough. (I have not yet replaced struts or shocks). The tires only have 6,000 miles on them (stock size 16" I think) it has steel wheels with plastic wheel covers Woodie edition. I did replace the lower control arm bushings (thanks Chrysler) about 6 years ago . Only replaced the rear bushing with Energy suspension part. My wife loves this car... but it rides like a hay wagon that has wooden wheels. RANT Nothing has been lowered, all factory height, just a 2002 Woodie edition....maybe that's it !! wooden suspension edition.

I have noticed that my 2005 GT rides considerably better than my 2001 Limited did. Others that ride with me have noted this too. You might compare your PT with a newer one with less miles. Just find one at a used car dealership and go for a test drive.

The PT rides like a truck, not like a car...and never will.

My Dodge truck has a very smooth ride. I wish my PT was as smooth.

Mine does also, but not as good as my old car. Cruisers kinda have a stiff ride.

Try some rear shocks. Made the 03 I'm driving a hole lot smoother.

I have an 01 Limited and I recently replaced the LCA's, Watts Link and switched from 205/55/16 to 195/65/15 and while I didn't think the ride was horrible before it rides better now(not to mention quiter). not as nice as my old car, a 00 intrepid, but it is essentially a truck not a sedan.

To improve the ride quality

Remove the rear sway bar

Install factory replacement struts and shocks only

Do not use any aftermarket polyurethane bushings or supports.

Install new upper and lower engine mounts and properly set them up

Shop for smallest/narrowest and factory recommended tire size and ask the supplier for the most quiet running tire they offer. Be specific about that. DO NOT get run flats.

Get an ignition tune up.

If you do these your PT WILL run much smoother.

The absence of the rear sway bar on 2003 and up improved the ride quality. So other models even the GT will in fact feel smoother than earlier models because of that.

It is my understanding that Chrysler not only saved money by eliminating it from production models 02 and newer but they also the improved the ride quality which was one of the many complaints of PT Cruiser owners of the early models
