Default thermostat housing leak? How to fix it?

There are a lot of residue around thermostat housing, so I guess it is thermostat housing leak the coolant.

Is it hard to fix it at home?
Do I need to replace both the housing and thermostat?

Thank you

The plastic thermostat housing is known for leaking. I recommend to Replace it.

The lower aluminum mount can warp and/or corrode which can cause the plastic house not to seal properly but this is not as common. You can contact member uptownsport for a lower mount that has been serviced.

you have to remove the housing to get to the thermostat anyway, I suggest you get a new housing. dirt cheap and, it's a dorman:

I would recommend to get the one that is applicated and matches the one for your PT Cruiser. There are 2 types that I am aware of?

The one that was posted is more for a NA and not a Turbo model PT Cruiser. You should take notice of where your the overflow hose is routed to get the correct one. They both can be used but may require re-routing the reservoir hose for the modification of none applicated or matching part.

I agree, nitro. but, good luck finding one for the turbo other than a dealer. I see you put one in your's last year. aside from the rerouting of the hose, it would appear it works fine.

No not really about 18 plus shipping. And in stock.

I temporarily routed my hose to work but have never liked how it wraps around the filler neck and than to the reservoir. That will be changed with my "BECOOL" aluminum reservoir project when it gets installed.

Replace them all. If the base is badly pitted. Take some 120 sand paper on a block with a rag in the opening and sand flat across until you have it pretty smooth. Then put in all the new stuff and reassemble.

Thanks all.

Got them replaced this afternoon.

The old gasket is very loose, when I pull the housing, it just fell off.

It is hard to check if it still leak because the leaking coolant evaporates very quickly.

I will monitor the level of coolant in the reservoir.

Did you do it? Just curious. May take a day or so to get the level stable from the work. Then you should be able to tell how your doing.
