Default Very Low Oil Died and Won't Start

I ran my 2003 pt low on oil and it just lost power and died! The car still turns over, so I assume it didn't seize, but still won't start.

Any of you experts got an idea of where to start?? I would love to hear your suggestions.

Mahalo! (thanks)

Remove the cam sensor and crank while watching the magnet to see if it turns.

Danny that may be a long way around a problem? Read what he described and what triggered it.

As always scan the OBDII port, but in this case don't look at or respond with the codes. You will have way to many that are most likely not directly related but simply activated because the engine failed to start. You must clear them and than try again to start the engine only 5 cranks no more if possible. Than recheck the codes. Write them all down and look each one and what they represent and think about which ones you can rule out by your description of the no start. What will be left may be the problem area's to start checking.

If you do not have skills to do this don't waste your time or ours seek a good mechanic or better a Auto Technician trained in diagnostic skills with CANbus and OBDII..

By all means please read this!

This is a check to see if timing belt broke...

I agree that it would seem if engine turns over, that engine didn't seize...

Those are the two key words.

If he had said just "died" I may have suspected more of a timing belt first off.

My reason for going there was that I figured that they found out the oil was low, only after it died. Rather than the dinging no oil pressure with oil light on and died.

Well it's what they didn't say that you got to look at sometimes. If it had died of lack oil pressure. We would more than likely heard about the dinging and oil light in the description. Although Lack of oil is important and alarming. More times than not it's discovered during another problem. While not being the current problem.Just my experience with people. Maybe I would have done well in psych classes. Not a subject easily mastered by all.

Agree.
I would think that if timing belt broke, it could well be described as "lost power and died".
