You say elsewhere that you have a 2006?

Are you saying that the touch release switch in the lift-gate wing emblem pull handle is not releasing the hatch?

If so it is a common problem. You may choose to replace the emblem with built-in switch. You could also install a separate switch.

Remove the rear left "D" pillar trim that covers the radio speaker. This can easily be done from inside with the hatch closed. It simply pulls out; perhaps 4-5 spring clips. Easy grasp is at the window.

Locate the large connector above the speaker.
You need simply ground the appropriate tan/dark green wire, briefly. The switch grounds this wire normally.
The wire color is tan/dark green at pin number 2, so it is near a corner. (Pin #1 is tan/yellow).
OK, the two mentioned wires flank the connector release tab.

BTW, Autozone has online wiring schematics for 2007 and 2007.

Use a simple 12 volt bulb circuit tester. Attach the alligator clip to a pin stuck into the wire and then touch the tester to ground.
This should release the latch. With the lift-gate opened, the big inner trim panel can be removed for further trouble shooting.

To all DIY types with second gen cruisers, I suggest that, near the previously mentioned connector, a switch can be installed in parallel to the emblem switch and hidden safely under the "D": pillar trim.

I had a similar problem on my late 2005 PT which I think is the same as your 2006 and posted a complete solution and fix. I posted a thread about it titled; FYI how I diagnosed and repaired dysfunction lift gate remote release. I think you'll find it as # 52 under technical threads. It was a thread of the complete fix including pictures of diss-assembly and a follow along narrative. I'm sorry, I don't know how to attach that FYI thread to this answering thread. I'm not that versed on how to use the subtleties of the Forum. good luck, ptprice

G2's don't have speakers there, they are in the door.

(I wish that they were still there cause you really can't hear the back door speakers from the front seat)
