Default CV Joint/Wrong Part Stick Shift

If you read this post please try to forget it. I learned that A I can't trust a guy it thought I could and B i HAVE to wear my glasses when working on a car. Buddy pulled axle while I was running for lunch and oil. He said was too short to start. I asked if he tried to fit it and the answer I got was yes I lined it up it won't fit. No he didn't line it up in the car but beside old broken one and sent me picture. What I didn't see without my glasses was the wear mark on the shaft that the boot sliding down/off caused. I noticed wear mark this afternoon and tried new one in car and imagine my surprise when it fit. I guess it's a lesson learned. Always double check, don't trust a guy I know is sometimes lazy, and wear my freaking glasses. Thank you to all sorry for th dumb-asserie!

That axle looks a good deal shorter. Are you implying the automatic pt has a 6" wider differential?

2002 trans interchanges with other years, nothing special about the trans, hubs, or axles. No reason you should have had all that trouble.

Is your old axle 37-7/16" when you compress it? Just curious.

Is there someone out there that can give me their VIN for a 2002 Auto Tranny so I can compare part numbers. I am starting to wonder if this is a combo of an exploded joint and or wrong axle in box. I think the size diff is too much for an exploded joint but want to compare auto to manual parts with Dealer before taking 4 hour round trip and they only look up by VIN

i don't have an auto. but is the new axle 37-7/16" compressed? that would rule out the "wrong axle in box" idea, and mean it is infact a correct axle for an auto you have there. advance auto, orielly, autozone, and rockauto all list only that size.

i'm not doubting you that the manual cars axle could be different

Lessen hear...always try to match and compare the new parts with the old parts before replacing them!

For all others if you want a quality axle set or single axle this would be my recommendation. Very good prices on NEW axles for all model PT Cruisers.

nitro the parts catalog in your link only lists one pass. side axle for the PT

for the PT automatic trans CV axle, it also is the same size/length/part number for a neon.

interestingly, autozone does list two passenger side manual transmission axles for the neon.

reading that and looking at the picture again.... LOLOL!!!

congrats on finding the right axle

i had a friend 'help' me throw a civic back together. same kinda deal. said he torqued the head bolts, i believed him. so i buttoned up the valve cover, reconnected all the wiring, cables, hoses, etc, and when I poured in coolant, it started flowing out the seam between the head and the block. it's OK to have a few dumb friends. they make you feel smarter.
