Unhappy loss of power at exactly 60miles

Hi first of all, please excuse my english, its very bad.

I have a 2006 automatic pt cruiser, and since a couple months when i reach 60miles per hour, it will start to stutter and lose power until it goes below the 60miles speed, i cant go faster than that, if i keep acelerating triying to go faster than the 60 miles, it will just lose all power until stops.

I already changed the gas pump, the injectors, the battery, cleaned the gas tank, and the problem still there.

I dont know what to do the car has been checked for 4 mechanics, none of them could fix it, everyone says its x thing, they changed the part and the problem keeps being there.

I had a similar thing happen in a Neon where it would shut off at 55. It was one of the transmission sensors but your PT has a different computer.
Has there been any codes. Please post them.

You didn't say where your from so just asking questions: Are you using unleaded gas all the time in your PT? I had a problem with another car where I took it overseas for three years where unleaded gas was hard to find. The CAT started to disintegrate and broke up causing a blockage in the exhaust pipe. That limited the exhaust flow and stopped me from obtaining higher speeds. Around town it was fine.

You've changed the fuel pump and injectors so that should rule out a fuel problem. How about spark plugs and wires? Has the car been hooked up to a diagnostic machine or scanner to see if something whould show up that would pin-point the problem?

Just changed the wires yesterday, no, i havent changed the spark plug, but spark plug could limit the speed to a exactly speed?.

Yeah, we scan it, but it didnt give anything.

Sorry for the questions, this is my first car, im just starting to learn.

I know you said "exactly 60" but then you said "and the problem sometimes happens at 25 miles per hour", so I'm just pointing out things that might cause the problem. Hopefully someone will come along with a solution for you. I'm off to a car show so won't be back till later this afternoon. Good luck.

I am suggesting that you check your camshaft sensor and the wire going to it. When you are going 60 miles per hour it is close to 2500 rpm. When the camshaft position sensor starts to go, it is usually signaled by the Check Engine light and the Limp In mode being activated. The engine will not go over 2,500 rpm and those with manual transmissions will hit the rev limiter. Its possible that also could be your crankshaft sensor as usually that one does not give you an engine trouble code but most of the time its the camshaft sensor.

Sounds like my current issue. I too am working through probable causes hopefully until I get the right one.

I find my car shudders with a loss of power. it happens at all sorts of speeds and time. Sometimes I get a popping sound from the exhaust. I got no codes either. Cam senser has been changed on mine, i see no air hose leak, I am about to change the spark plugs but today I changed my air filter.

Someone pointed out that a clogged up air filter does something to the fuel air ratio which can lead to unspent fuel?
I changed mine and fingers crossed, as daft as it sounds, car started fine, didn't even struggle to start. I will test drive mine tomorrow to see if the shuddering still happens.
