Unhappy Battery Warning Light

The battery warning light comes on when driving and occasionally at start. It usually resets after engine is turned off & restarted. The alternator maintains a 14.2 V charge on the battery when the battery warning light is on.

Is there a known common short in the PT Cruisers electrical system?

I've also read on several forums that the ECM could be the culprit.

Before replacing the ECM would it be worth a try to re-flash my existing ECM or Chrysler TSB # 18-007-07. PCM?

You don't say anything about the battery. How old is it?
Get it tested.

I would suggest checking the wires going to the generator. Other members have found a small hole rubbed through the braid on the wire harness going to the generator.

The small hole was rubbed in the braid by the CV joint boot! And that rubbed a break in the wires inside the wire loom.

Question Re: Battery Warning Light

Since the weather warmed up the Battery indicator light has not come on.

The last 2 days when attempting to start the PT there is just a click and removing the key for a few seconds and making a second attempt the starter engages like no problem occurred.

I'm suspecting a wiring problem in the steering column.

Anyone have a suggestion what should be looked at first???

Sorry...how did the battery get ruled out as the problem??

I do not see where it was properly load tested? I do see that it was purchased 5 months ago but that does not indicate the age or true condition of the battery.

Nitro's way of checking a battery

Did you check all the wires going to the generator?
