Default dash lighting problem with 2001 pt cruiser

At night the dash lights are bright and can be adjusted by the dimmer. during day they are nonexistent. Is there a sensor that tells the car if it is day or night and if so how can I replace it or disable it.

Cool Re: dash lighting problem with 2001 pt cruiser

Nope!
I believe that you've got the problem all wrong.
On the Gen 1 Cruisers, the bulbs and instrument cluster display is very dim; as compared to the 2006 and up. They are especially troublesome at dusk.

You need to pull the instrument cluster and replace the bulbs with #2723s, or LEDs.
See the historical threads in the "Interior Forums", as well as this one and "Tech Forum".

They are only on when the headlights are on.
Why do you want them on in the daylight..??

thanks for your reply. the reason I want them on in the daylight is because the gauges are recessed and unless the sun is directly on them they are can't be seen.
