Default Replace rear hatch?

Hey guys,

I have an 06 base model PT and I was wondering if anyone has tried / successfully modded/switched the rear hatch so that it can be unlocked when the rest of the car is unlocked rather than having to be opened via the key every time.

A double tap on the unlock should unlock all your doors unless you have a problem with either the rear actuator or touch pad.

Thank you, Lion. I checked again this morning to verify (but it's possible that I'm just completely and utterly useless this early). There's no touchpad whatsoever behind the emblem. I've tried googling it but haven't found anything that says the Liftgate may not have an actuator or the Liftgate handle may not have a touchpad... With that in mind, I guess I'll take it apart when I get and see if there's any other wiring or if it's purely a cosmetic pull handle.

on my 06 if you click the key fob 2x it unlockes and opens the hatch there has to be some kind of a runnber push thingee under the emblem

Your base model 2006 may not have an actuator motor in the lift-gate door latch.
I have salvaged 2nd-gen hatch latch parts and find vehicles with a direct rod link from the latch to a lever on the key cylinder (only key will open rear hatch). These cars do have wing emblem handles without the electric switch.

What you need to make it happen is a rear wing-emblem with the switch, the matching latch unit, and all of the wiring needed from your instrument cluster back to the hatch latch.
Your lift-gate electrical harness may not have the wiring required for complete central locking.
Pull off the interior hatch-panel and look for unused connectors.
If you find two unused connectors, one grey two wire and one black 2 wire, then perhaps you can upgrade.
No connector(s)? No problem! IF, that is, the wiring is present at the connector under the left "D" pillar. You can replace the hatch harness.
Lacking the correct wires at that "D" pillar connector means you have a major rewiring project.

You do have an electrical schematic for your car!?
