Default Rear wiper assembly removal

Hi all,

I did a search under various titles, but couldn't find exactly what I was looking for.

My rear wiper assembly is rusty. Also, the grommet is old and torn.
I'd like to remove the assembly so that I can paint it, and so that I can replace the grommet.

Can anyone guide me as to how the wiper assembly is disassembled and removed from the rear window?

Also, is there a specific color for the wiper assembly, or will flat black do the trick?

Thank you.

You need only to remove the center plastic button . Then remove the nut. Grasp firmly and wiggle side to side to pull off shaft. I would recommend some rustoleum either hi heat or wheel semi gloss black. This will last and look way better than flate black. Will look as new if you get it ready to paint decently.

Check this thread: Rear Wiper Grommet? I just uploaded some pics and whatnot from replacing my grommet.

When you re-install the wiper arm don't go too crazy on the retaining nut. The torque spec is 160 to 175 in. lb. (13 to 14 ft. lb.). That's firm, but not crazy tight. You wouldn't want to break the shaft on the wiper motor.

Thanks very much!

I happen to have some hi heat rustoleum, so that's what I'll use.

While I'm at it I'll remove the rear hatch panel to take out the wiper motor and replace the grommet for the wiper arm. Mine is old and cracked.

Good luck with your repairs.

Thank you, I'm looking forward to them.

Now I have to figure out how exactly to pop out the liftgate trip to remove the rear wiper motor, so that I can replace the grommet.

So, I got around to doing the grommet replacement and rear wiper arm painting.

Low quality pics, but you'll get the idea. The first is the old, chewed up grommet and rusted arm. The second is the new grommet (seems to be a different style than the original) and the painted rear wiper arm.

For the time being, I used hi heat bbq paint (it was handy)
I like the look. If I decide to change it in the future, it's easy enough to pop off the wiper arm again and repaint.

Thanks to all for their help and advice!
