Default Keeping 2007 PT Cruiser to fix up (customize)

We are getting another car for my wife. Her's was the Pt Cruiser. It has 89000 miles on it in fair condition but only because someone backed into it pushing the edge of the grille in and bending the fender in front doing so. I beat the bottom of the gas tank because the fuel pump is sticking or going out. Figure I will change that myself by going through regular proceeder on it. It will be taken of the road while I do some cosmetic modifications on it. Are there some other bumpers that are aftermarket that don't cost an arm and a leg for it? I'm also thinking of making my own grille for it depending on the bumper mod. Just want some inside info for those who know where to find this stuff. I was also wondering the difference in tail lights since there seems to be plenty selection for the 01-05 but 06 and up not much. I can customize the opening and put weather stripping on it to. Thanks for any help.

Welcome to the forum from the great sovereign state of Arkansas!

The only difference in the earlier tail lights are the plugs. And there is a very simple mode for that. Just take a Dremel tool and remove the prongs marked in red in this photo. Then the tail light plugs will work on all PT's:

On the bumpers, the custom bumpers covers are hard to come by nowadays and very expensive. However, there are many grill choices available online. And there's several members here that I've really done some neat things to the fronts of their 2nd Gen PT's like yours.

Thanks for the reply on the lights especially. I noticed after market lights for the earlier Pts are cheaper than the late ones. I happen to like the front ends on the earlier Pt cruisers also. Anyone change a newer Pt Cruis
er front end for an older one?

beating on the gas tank worked for 2 days for me.. but it wasn't a bad job changing just the pump(vs. the whole sending unit they try to sell for $$$)
