Default Towing PT Behind RV?

I'm a first-time owner of a PT Cruiser, 2002 5-speed, and need some advise on towing it behind a Class C Motorhome, of which I'm also a first-time user.

I've done some research on towing with all four wheels on the ground or using a towing dolly, but unsure of the pros and cons of the two options and then there is the question of supplemental braking. Another consideration is the cost, so I'd like to keep it as low as possible without compromising safety.

There's a towing hitch on the RV, so that's one less item I'll need.

Would be interested in comments and opinions on this subject and thanks in advance for your input.

Use the dolly.

Today, I own my deceased dad's last pickup truck. He'd welded eye-holes to the frame under the front bumper and had fashioned a V-shaped tow bar. To match this, he had made a coupler to fit in the fifth-wheel on a big truck. He'd go to auctions and buy a big truck. Then he'd hook up this rig so he could pull his pickup home behind the big truck. Pretty neat. And I still have this whole rig.

The problem is that pulling a vehicle in neutral for a long time causes strange type of ware in the differential and transmission. I know a front wheel drive PT is nothing like a Chevy truck. But the PT's differential and at least part of that manual transmission will be whirling if the PT is pulled down the road in neutral with the front wheels on the road. I'd expect strange problems if I did this very much and for long distances.

The dolly is a no-brainer. Not only will it spare the PT's drive train, but it also solves the tow bar issue. So no mod to the PT is required.

Thanks for the input, Handy Cruiser. I like the idea of not having to modify the PT Cruiser, but I'm also wondering about supplemental braking. Do you have any comments about the various options?

Did you flat tow yours or use a dolly, Jim? I'm just curious.

I tow mine with a dolly that was made for behind an RV, it has the hydraulic bump brake and is speed rated for the Interstate, no 55mph max on this one. Its Galvanized and awesome. Don't buy the low speed non brake dolly.

I decided to go with four wheels down. Mainly because I came across some lightly used equipment for a reasonable price. Got an Aventa LX towbar and BrakeBuddy Classic, together with safety cables and 8" drop receiver. Unfortunately, I need a 6" drop receiver.

I've got to order a Blue Ox base plate and install it. Comments by anyone with experience with one of these would be welcomed. And, then there's the lighting to think about.
