Default Any Feedback on DNJ Timing Belt Kit + Water Pump?

Hi all,

Does anyone have any practical experience/feedback on the DNJ Timing Belt Kit + Water Pump for an '02 PT Cruiser Limited with automatic trans.?

I saw it on ebay for a great price, but not sure if it's a good unit. My google search resulted in mixed reviews.

Dodge Timing Belt Kit Water Pump 1995 2002 PT Cruiser Caravan Voyager 2 4 DOHC | eBay

Thanks.

I can't say I've tried the DNJ kit. But I can confirm that my research on them indicates the same thing as yours.

Have you looked at the timing kits on RockAuto? They have the DNJ TBK151WP kit for $82.79 and many other good choices too. My vote would be the Gates kit for $20 more.

Thanks for the tip.

For $20 more, Gates seems to be a better choice, from the little research I've done so far.

At $100, it's still $140 cheaper than the cost my mechanic (who is a friend) was asking for the parts.

Your friend was probobly getting local, and that is most likely his cost. That is a friend. just so you are aware.

In my opinion, these are not the parts that you would want to get the least expensive that you can find, but you would want to get the best quality, which unfortunately usually means a higher price. But if it's like anything else, you get what you pay for, and if you buy cheap, there is a good chance it will fail sooner, and then you'll be facing the expense again.

Absolutely! He's a phenomenal mechanic, and also one of the most trustworthy and honest people I know. I wouldn't want anyone else doing the work.

Figure he quoted me an $800 price, including parts, to do the work, were usually I've seen it's between $1000-$1200.

I completely agree. I would want very good quality for this specific repair.

As I'm new to the car thing (I've mainly been a motorcycle guy till now), I'm looking for opinions and leads on good quality parts that I may be able to find on sale or for a good deal. Hence, this thread

If your mech quoted you the price for the parts, it's probably parts that he is familiar with and knows if they are quality or not.

$800 is not a bad price. You certainly want him to look at the motor mounts (upper & lower) and if they need replacing, it's one of those "might as well" while the area is torn apart.
