Default What is this? (Located in front wheel well)

Hi everyone!

I removed the splashguards from my front wheel wells today to do some work, and noticed these on the body, by the door, located behind the front wheel.
What are they?

My best guess is the air intake for air going through the cabin/vents?
Am I right?

They are not. But they are some kind of spacer. Not sure the factory intent. Holes don't pass all the way through.

Very interesting, indeed! I would have bet money that they were some kind of vent.

Thanks!

You got that right Frank. Best garden dirt you can find usually.

That was the "after" picture! ahahahhaa

When I took out the splash guard on both sides of the car and that that insert that feels like it's made out of some kind of styrofoam, I had a small hill of dirt and leaves once I cleaned each one out. AMAZING how much gunk gets trapped in there!
