Wink The Handy Windshield Washer Sprayer Mod!

This is a very simple modification. But it's one that has alluded me for a long time. So I think it deserves it's own thread.

I have disliked the windshield washer sprayers in the PT Cruiser since the first day I brought my PT home. They seem prone to heat damage, not only on the turbo PT's, but on the NA's as well. The fitting for the hose sticks straight down and is prone to breakage. When going to salvage yards in search of good sprayers, I usually find about 80 percent of the ones on PT Cruisers are bad.

The normal solution has been to just pull some sprayers from other types of Chrysler cars. Many are similar or the same as the PT and will fit. But these never seem to last either. But then I found THESE on the right:

These washers come off of a 2006 Pacifica. If you ever compare the Pacifica to other Chrylsers of the same era, you will notice that the Pacifica seems to have the most amount of unique parts. I don't know if they just made the Pacifica at a different factory or it was designed differently. But when I go to scavenge salvage parts, I like looking the Pacificas over very closely for unique stuff. And this last time I scored these unique washers.

The hood insulation in my PT had become tattered along the back edge, so I cut it short and clean. Sadly, this has likely increased the exposure of my washer sprayers to heat. But with these babies tight against the hood, I'm hoping they don't become crispy like the old ones did TWICE even with the insulation in place. But time will tell. If they do, I'll post about it and my fix for that. Luckily, I got a second set of these sprayers in case that happens.

The second great thing about these sprayers is that they are adjustable. You can take a screwdriver and turn the nozzle on each spray to adjust it. That means you can now get better coverage over the PT windshield. And for someone like me that lives in a state of farmland with bug swarms, that's very important.

Of course, we can buy aftermarket sprayers, but they usually stick down even farther below the hood. And I prefer the look of the smaller OEM type. These Pacifica sprayers appear to be just the thing for the PT Cruiser.

Excellent find and thread. Thanks!

I was just messing around with adjusting the spray pattern (height, location) on my PT's nozzles. I'll file this info away in case I have to swap mine out in the future.

I replaced with aftermarket LED washers - they've held up for years.

Nice find! I wonder if the yard near me has a Pacifica. They might. I will have to remember to check for washer nozzles.

Yep. The ones off the Pacifica have to be inserted at an angle due the direction of the tip on the bottom. But once in the hole, they snap in just like the original ones.
j0e, ptprice and wingman55 like this.

Thumbs down Re: The Handy Windshield Washer Sprayer Mod!

Hrm, I've never actually even seen a Pacifica. I wonder if they ever sold in Canada ? Never seen one in the wreckers. Any good second choice for replacement washer sprayers ? I also don't like the PT's .

My second choice is just to buy new ones for your PT. On my Charger Daytona, the nozzles from the Pacifica would have likely sprayed over the top of the windshield. So I just bought a new Mopar OEM set for the Charger off eBay. Yes, the PT engine may eventually turn a new OEM set into crispy critters too. But it will likely take years for that to happen.

ever see aa wiper arm on a camaro? or a malibu?
here check this out:

that extra hose you see.. well, the nozzle is right on the arm. this little guy:

are you ready to be amazed??? you can even add 2, or more, to EACH wiper...if you're feeling frisky. see:

perfect spray pattern every time. doesn't matter if you're stopped or going 150mph.

i hate GM, but IMO this is the ONE thing they managed to get right. i'm contemplating adding these to my ford. if you go this route in a cold climate though, forget about the blue stuff as it'll freeze in the lines.

unfortunately chrysler put two holes in the hood so IDK what to do about that. maybe add LEDs like QSD.
