Default What OCI do you use ?

Since oil tech has been improved over the past years(I guess), I wonder if we can stretch the oil change interval from what is suggested in the owner manual.

I original did 6 month change, usually 4k miles.

I am considering to do yearly change, which is about 8-9K miles.

I am sticking with 4K on the PT GT. Even with Mobil 1, I worry about thermal breakdown as the oil circulates through the turbo. I grew up working on big trucks and heavy equipment. Most of these had turbochargers. And there would often be a lot of carbon in the turbo oil lines if the oil was not changed regularly. And once plugged, there goes the turbo.

Ironically, our new 2015 Chrysler 300S is supposed to go 10K between oil changes. We will do it at 6K like we did with last Chrysler 300S. Of course, there's no turbo to worry about on this car.

I do 5K on the PT and Vette which usually comes out to about once year as I don't use either one as a primary vehicle. Using Mobil 1 in both. Wife's 2014 Cruze Turbo uses Synthetic Blend and the recommended change is 7500K.

I find it ironic that the colors red, white, and blue stand for freedom until they are flashing behind you.

You forgot about taste. Very important how the oil tastes too.

since 70-75% of how you experience flavor is due to your sense of smell, i prefer to skip that test and am AOK with possibility of being 30% inaccurate

brake cleaner on the other hand, i have a natural tendancy to taste for potency

Same here!
I'm usually between 4-5K.
And I do a Lucus gas teatment and clean my K&N at the same time.
That way I don't get as much chance to forget.

I think that I stop after the color and smell test!

Follow the suggested interval in the manual unless the oil manufacture will suggest and warranty longer. You can verify and possibly extend if you have your used oil analyzed.

For me, once a year warranted Amsoil oil and filter change for the past 6 years. Likely too often as Amsoil has warranted for that for the past 42 years up to 25,000 normal service miles a year without a single reported oil related failure.
