Default Rev Limiter

Do the PT's all have a rev limiter on them? I was wanting to listen to my exhaust this moring to see if it has a nice burble, but the damn thing wouldn't rev above 4,000 rpm. Took it down the road and punched it and it took off. So I'm thinking there's a limiter while sitting in park that doesn't engage one you're in drive and racing! LOL

The automatic PT has one rev limiter while in park and neutral. And it has another higher rev limiter with the engine is in drive. Here's my thread on this with a video.

General engine RPM limits came about when the OBDII diagnostic systems were standardized on all US manufactures vehicles starting in 1995. Most all vehicles now have them at least protection for high RPM engine protection limit.

I highly recommend not to free run an unloaded engine above 3000 RPM as this could do damage to an unloaded engine. There is NO time ever necessary to run a stock PT engine above 3000 for any diagnostic work what so ever.

For off road, racing or spirited driving with ECU access you can change the engine speed limiters as desired.

Yep, right around 4,000 is where it started to stutter. Geez!
