Default How to Replace Rocker Panels

My 2001 PT was run off the road and the rocker panel on the right side is damaged. How do I remove and replace? I may have found a donor at a salvage yard.

You are probably better off buying a replacement rocker from somebody like Sherman than trying to cut one out at a JY that may be rusted inside. This is a project for someone who is handy with a welder and good at body work. If that's you, go for it.

Replacement rockers don't fit or are shooed like ours. Do I don't recommend you go that way. But the rest of this post is something to consider.

I'm in the process of repairing mine for rust just cut about 3 feet on each side. most of it is hidden on the bottom so it don't have to be pretty.

I spot welded on one side and doing the other side today and going to use rivets and spot welds so I can put more seam sealer on it. I got new rockers on ebay one side was about $60 and the other $70.

Get new metal and I agree with the others if your replacing the whole thing if you don't know what you're doing don't. It will not come out nice. If you're playing then take a shot.

Mine looks like crap but since it is moslty on the bottom no one can tell. Give me a couple of extra years I hope.

Mike

Since my rocker panel is bent in and up worst at the rear of the front door, will the Sherman attach well? Where is the best place to buy them?

If rust isn't your challenge, but just the dent in your rocker panel and you have access to a welder, you can light weld pulling washers along the damage and lever the dent out. It'll take a while and some doin'. This done, simply snap the washers off by wiggling them with vice grips, grind down the welds and refinish to your satisfaction.
Keep in mind the stepped pattern every few inches on the underside of the rocker panel and try to keep this configuration in your repair. Depending on just how close to the original you want to achieve, it's just a matter of your time and patience. See attached photo of the underside of a 2005PT rocker panel configured correctly. Have fun with the project. Happy PTin', ptprice
