A car can be replaced--GT or no GT. Sorry to hear of your misfortune, PianT, but glad you are okay. Think on it for a few days--you will make the right decision. Good luck.

I know how you feel. If I wrecked my GT, Id spend 10 grand less and buy a Corolla Type S. PTs are sweet cars but the gas mileage and insurance suck!

Glad to hear youre ok!

Tomorrow is another day. Glad you will be here to see it.
That should be the foremost thought. If you can, postpone a car decision - buy something used for the meantime, and give thought to your needs/wants/limitations for a "long term" car before you buy.

Better the car gets totaled than you. Glad to hear you are ok. I looked at the Civic Hybrid before i got my PT. Only things was Honda wasn't offering any rebates and it was abit out of my price range. Consumer Reports gave it and the Prius good marks.

PianT,

Just because your Leafs lost the series to the Flyers, you didn't have to go and drive yourself off the road!

Sorry, just kidding. Glad to hear you're okay. Nobody can fault you for making a judgement call on what best suits your (and your family's) needs. Just make sure to keep in touch, and check in with us once in a while....

All things considered, you walked away and that's a good thing! Good luck in the decisions ahead of you.

Sorry to hear about the accident man, but glad you're OK! I hit a Tundra head-on last year after having my DCS1 for 3 weeks, so I kinda know what you mean. I was in the hospital for 11 days, including a coma for 4 and had a lot of time to do some thinking. It really makes you appreciate life, and the people and things in your life.Do what's best for you and your family, and never take what your life has given you for granted.

Thanks to everyone for the kind replies. It's good to be alive!!!

The hardest part of not getting another PT will be being "outside" of the great group of people here on this forum, it really has become a part of my daily life to log on here and chat with all of you (don't tell my boss, lol). It seems a bit odd that I would feel this way about this forum but it's like a group of friends that we have even though most of us have never met.

I went out and bought a 2000 VW Jetta, deisel. I researched the fuel economy and it was down to a VW deisel or Hybrid. The Hybrids technology is still a bit too new for my taste, I fell for that whole new technology thing a few times with computers. I think it may be best to let them work the bugs out for a few years. Right now those cars are priced in such a way that the consumer is still paying for the research and development, they will drop in price.

I got a great deal on the Jetta, with only 65,000 miles on the bullet proof motor it will last for a long time and save me tons of $'s at the pump. I hope the government keeps thier greedy hands off the diesel fuel, but for now it is selling for about 15 cents/liter cheaper than regular fuel or 67 cents a gallon. If I factor in the fact I was using premium in the GT its closer to 30 cents a liter or $1.35 a gallon (Canadian funds),plus the deisel is suposed to get about 1000 klm's per tank compared to about 400 klm's I was getting with the GT. In short it adds up to a huge savings that I just can't ignore.

So far the insurance company has been good about replacement cost for the GT, I had a three year non depreciative policy, that is if the car is written off in the first three years it will be replaced as if it was brand new - the policy cost a few bucks more but sure payed off in this case, cheap insurance rates are great but beware of what you're being coverd for.

Again, thanks to all of you for the kind words, my stitches come out tommorow and I'm back to work on Tuesday, there must have been an angel in my car that night.

Keep on Cruisen. [8D]

Ian.

PianT

Like others said, glad you came out of your accident alright. Now, even though you aren't a PT owner no longer, feel free to drop me a line next year when you visit Naples.
