Like others said, glad you came out of your accident alright. Now, even though you aren't a PT owner no longer, feel free to drop me a line next year when you visit Naples.
Someone else lives here in Naples, FL?? Maybe you've seen me flying around town in my DC3...?

I live in South Fort Myers and mainly travel south to north. PianT has family in Naples. Haven't seen you yet!

Sorry to hear about your loss. Keep in mind, you can roll a PT and live to tell us all about it. Imagine if it was a Mini.

While it would be nice to have a GT the PT with 150HP is all you really need. Would cost less to drive and you would still have a PT.
Glad that you are OK.

Glad you are alright. You can only do what you gotta do.

sakigt, my insurance went down when I got my '01 PT (was driving a sweet '96 Mazda pickup) and stayed the same when I got the GT. Probably has to do with your young age.

Sorry to hear of your misfortune. I hope you can keep your wits about you after such a shock to the system. I wonder how well some of the other cars you are considering would have protected you. That extra height and distance between your head and the ceiling might have made a difference.

I considered the Prius before deciding on my PT GT, but then I did the math. There are no used Prius' available, and they go for about $22,000. I got my used 2003 PT GT with 4,500 mile on it for $17,000. That's a $5,000 savings over the Prius.

I spend about $1,500/year on gas (with high gas prices as they are now). Assuming the PT gets 22 MPG and the Prius gets 44 MPG, that means I'd cut my gas bill in half. A savings of $750/year. That means it would take 6.7 years (1500/750)before the gas savings paid for the Prius. Gas in your area is obviously more than it is here (about US$2.10), so your math will be different.

Of course, there are other factors involved, but we shouldn't put more value on the mileage than it deserves.

And please, drive carefully!

Joe

Just saw this today PianT. I kinda of have to believe the false info on the gas milage. Didn't the same thing happen with the Cruisers? Click the link below and then click the main story.

Hope it's a turbo-diesel. I had a non-turbo diesel Rabbit, and I'm not a racer, but that was too slow for me.
One of the reasons diesels last longer is that diesel fuel is actually a light oil and doesn't break down motor oil like gasoline does.
Good luck - I think you're making a good choice - I agree about hybrids at this point.
