In the first Gen PT's, the needles are lit by bulbs that light the rest of the gauge face. You must have one or more burnt out. You will need to remove the gauge cluster and replace the burnt out bulbs from the back side.

In this photo of a disassembled gauge cluster, you car see the six large bulbs sticking through from the back side. The smaller bulbs are all for warning and indicator lights and are not your problem.

You don't have to remove the board as in Handts picture. Just pop them in from the back of the cluster. If you decide to get in and do it. Done like to replace all so no more will burn out for a while. I have a thread input removing the cluster but I can't link it on this phone. Compleat with pictures.

Several weeks ago, I upgraded my instrument cluster bulbs to #2723.

Twice as bright as the oem #74 bulbs and crisp light.

They look good. It is a pain, though, tearing out the entire dash. But... definitely worth it.

The 1st generation PTs dash gauge cluster bulb location does not do well with LED replacements. Most LEDs are very directional in their illumination. You may not like how your gauges will look after you install them.

This thread explains some of the members trying LED's.

"I replaced the filament bulbs on my 2002 PT Cruiser with GREEN leds from superbrightleds, looks good but the needles don't illuminate??".

Search eBay. I think I paid less than $10.00 for a pack of 10. The cluster will use 6.
