Question Remote Start Problem

2006 PT Base with dealer installed Mopar remote start system. Has worked perfectly since 2006. Now, it won't start. Push the remote once and get one beep and lights flash. Push the second time, when it should start, two beeps and lights flash. Nothing else. Tested batteries in fob and they are ok.

Checked the hood open safety switch to make sure it hadn't fallen free of its mount. Any ideas?

Is the red security light staying on on the dash when you are trying to start it?

Is the engine trouble light on ? If so what are the codes?

No, there is no security system on this car. No engine trouble light either.

Does it start with the key in the ignition?

It starts fine with the key, if that is what you mean. This is a simple car and the remote start was a dealer installation. Conventional door locks and no multi-function fob. The remote start fob has just the start button on it.

OK, found the problem. The ground wire to the safety under-hood switch had broken off at the anchor screw. Took a section of wire I had and put on a new end and spliced it to the rest of the wire. All fixed!

Excellent, thanks for telling us the fix, hope you used a flexible wire as I suspect the switch moving bends the wire,
did you solder or crimp the repair?

Flexible wire, same as the original. I used a crimped butt connector for the splice and a crimped loop connector for the ground screw. The wire has more slack than original, which was pulled tight when the hood was raised enough to put up or take down the prop rod. Snugged up with electrician's tape and good to go.
