Sounds Dangerous..

So i was driving the other day, just pulled out of my driveway. As i was cruising down the road, i notice my car making a persistant thumping noise that i could cleqrly feel,(below my feet and the steering wheel) and hear. Any thoughts or ideas on what it could be?

When you say persistent, so you mean it's continuous or only happens during specific times like going over rough places or when you turn?

If it only happens when you go over a rough place in the road, then it sounds like a bad lower control arm bushing. The feeling of it under your feet is very common. It could be a sway bar bushing too. But the feet thing is more often the control arm.

If the noise is fairly continuous while driving straight on smooth road, it may be a CV shaft, bad tire or wheel bearing. If it only happens when turning, then check for bad CV shaft/joint first. Also, if it's continuous, make sure you are not dragging something under front of your PT and that you don't have something rapped around a CV shaft. That's very common in Arkansas.

Just from experience check the lower motor mount bolt that comes in from the outside. Remove the tire and check it real good as mine sheared off going down the interstate and my engine dropped down on the frame pulling the CV shaft out axle. Very costly and could also be very dangerous as well. Hope this is not your problem.
